Haras El Hodood booked their place in the Egypt Cup quarterfinals after a dramatic win over Smouha on penalties in Alexandria.
The match at El Hodood Stadium ended 1-1 in regular time before Haras prevailed 5-4 in the shootout.
Haras started perfectly, taking the lead in the fifth minute through Mohamed Hamdy Zaky, which gave them early control and confidence. The game then turned into a physical, tightly balanced battle, with both sides creating chances but failing to add to the score. Haras forward Mahmoud Oka missed a golden one-on-one opportunity that could have killed the match.
That miss proved costly when Senegalese striker Pape Badji struck in the 85th minute to bring Smouha level, sending the tie into extra time. Neither team managed to break the deadlock in the additional 30 minutes, with fatigue and caution shaping the closing stages.
In the penalty shootout, Haras El Hodood converted five of their six attempts, with Mohamed Ashraf Roka, Fawzi El Hanawy, Ibrahim Abdel Hakim, Moamen Awad, and Moataz Mohamed all scoring, while Ahmed El Sheikh missed.
For Smouha, Khaled El Ghandour, Samir Fekry, Amr El Sisi, and Pape Badji scored, but Ahmed Fawzy and Abdel Rahman Amer failed, sending Haras through to face the winner of Al Masry vs Zed in the next round.
