Burnley have completed the signing of Tunisian midfielder Hannibal Mejbri on a four-year deal from Manchester United, confirming the transfer on Wednesday. The 21-year-old, who had been linked with a move to Turf Moor earlier this week, becomes the latest addition to Burnley’s squad under manager Scott Parker.
Mejbri’s arrival at Burnley ends weeks of speculation about his future, following his loan spell with Sevilla in La Liga last season.
Despite initial reports suggesting a loan move, Burnley have opted for a permanent transfer for an undisclosed fee.
The Clarets’ announcement marks Mejbri as the club’s eighth signing of the summer, further strengthening their squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
The Tunisian international expressed his excitement about joining Burnley, saying: “I’m very excited. I’m very happy to be here and I’m looking forward to seeing the fans.
I’ve already played against Burnley at Turf Moor and the atmosphere was incredible. After speaking with the manager, the project seemed interesting to me and I hope we can succeed.”
Mejbri, who made his senior debut for Tunisia in June 2021, has quickly become one of the country’s most promising talents. He has already earned 118 appearances in professional football, scoring nine goals and providing 26 assists.
Known for his creativity and technical ability, Mejbri’s versatility in midfield makes him a valuable asset for Burnley as they aim to establish themselves in the Premier League this season.
His experience in La Liga, where he played on loan with Sevilla, has helped Mejbri develop a well-rounded game, blending his attacking instincts with a solid work rate.
His performances in Spain reportedly attracted interest from several clubs, but Burnley moved swiftly to secure his services, seeing him as a key component in Parker’s plans for the club’s future.
Scott Parker, who took over as Burnley manager earlier this summer, has been keen to bring in young, dynamic talent to reshape the squad.
Mejbri’s signing is seen as a step towards building a more energetic and versatile team capable of competing against the top sides in the Premier League.
Burnley supporters will be eager to see how Mejbri adapts to his new surroundings and contributes to the club’s ambitions.
His arrival adds a creative spark to the midfield and gives Parker more options as he looks to navigate the challenges of the upcoming season.
