Hammarby sign Senegal teenager Alwaly Baba Camara
Alwaly Baba Camara has completed a move to Swedish side Hammarby IF, marking the 18-year-old Senegalese midfielder’s first step into European football after leaving Entente Sportive Grand Yoff.
The teenager has signed a five-year contract with the Allsvenskan club and will initially link up with the reserve squad as he adapts to life in Stockholm, with a gradual pathway set towards the first team.
The move is seen as a significant development in the young midfielder’s career, with Hammarby continuing their strategy of investing in emerging talent with long-term potential.
Camara first drew international attention during the 2025 U17 World Cup, where he delivered a series of impressive performances for Senegal.
In four appearances at the tournament, he made his mark with a goal scored in the eighth minute against Costa Rica, showcasing both his technical ability and attacking instinct.
His performances at youth level did not go unnoticed beyond Africa, attracting interest from European clubs and leading to opportunities to train abroad.
He also spent time in France, where he participated in a training camp with Stade Brestois 29, further exposing him to European football environments.
Hammarby’s decision to secure Camara on a long-term deal reflects their confidence in his development trajectory.
The club is known within Sweden for providing young players with structured progression into senior football, and Camara is expected to follow a similar pathway.
At just 18, the midfielder now faces a key stage in his development as he adjusts to a new country, new league, and higher competitive standards. His early months in Sweden will focus on adaptation and growth before any potential step up to top-flight action.
For Camara, the move represents both a major opportunity and a long-term investment in his future as he begins his European journey in Stockholm.
