Hamdy Fathy plays full match as Al Rayyan maintain perfect Qatar League start

Al Rayyan moved to the top of the Qatar League after securing a late 2-1 victory away to Al Wakrah, with Ahmed Alaaeldin scoring the decisive goal in the 90th minute.

Hamdy Fathy started in midfield for Al Wakrah and completed the full match, but his side were unable to claim their first win of the season.

The visitors took the lead in the first minute of added time at the end of the opening half. Brazilian forward Roger Guedes found the net to give Al Rayyan a 1-0 advantage at the interval.

Al Wakrah responded after the break and drew level in the 73rd minute through Amine Zouhzouh. The hosts appeared to have secured a point, but Al Rayyan struck again at the end of normal time.

Ahmed Alaaeldin scored in the 90th minute to restore Al Rayyan’s lead and settle the match in favour of the away side. The result completed a 2-1 victory for Al Rayyan.

The win gives Al Rayyan six points from their opening two matches, placing them at the top of the Qatar League table. They have won both of their games so far.

Al Wakrah remain eighth with one point. They have not yet recorded a victory this season, having drawn their opening fixture 2-2 before losing to Al Rayyan.

Fathy joined Al Wakrah in the summer of 2023 and has remained an established part of the club’s midfield. The Egypt international renewed his contract with the club before the start of the current season, extending his stay in Qatar until 2029.

The defeat leaves Al Wakrah still waiting for their first success of the campaign, while Al Rayyan’s two wins have placed them at the summit after the second round of matches.
