Hamdi Fathi has completed his return to Al Ahly SC after more than a year away, rejoining the Egyptian giants on a one-season loan from Qatari club Al Wakrah SC.
The 30-year-old midfielder, who had previously spent several successful years with Al Ahly, will now bolster the squad ahead of the 2025 Club World Cup in the United States.
The transfer was confirmed by both Al Ahly and Al Wakrah SC in official statements shared on their social media platforms.
Mahmoud Al-Khatib, the chairman of Al Ahly, made a visit to Sheikh Khalifa bin Hassan, the chairman of Al Wakrah, where they officially finalised Fathi’s loan deal.
This move comes as Al Ahly prepares for the prestigious Club World Cup next June.
Fathi, who had been with Al Wakrah since his transfer to Qatar, has now returned to a club where he previously made a significant impact.
During his earlier spell at Al Ahly, he appeared in 152 matches, scoring 14 goals and providing 9 assists.
His contributions were key in the club’s successes, and his return will be a boost for Al Ahly as they aim for success in the upcoming Club World Cup.
Valued at 2 million euros, Fathi’s experience and leadership in midfield are expected to strengthen Al Ahly’s squad during the tournament.
His previous record with the club, combined with his familiarity with their systems and goals, makes him a valuable addition for the Black Eagles as they aim for more international glory.
As the 2025 Club World Cup draws closer, Fathi’s return will no doubt be closely watched by fans and pundits alike, with many expecting him to play a key role in Al Ahly’s quest for success on the global stage.
