The Dutch midfielder sustained the injury during a friendly match against Colombia, which ended in a 0-0 draw. Van der Vaart confirmed the duration of his recovery on Twitter, stating, “It will take 3 to four weeks to recover from my ankle injury. I will work hard to come back as quickly as possible.” The MRI conducted after the match revealed a torn ligament. The 30-year-old midfielder has had a productive season, contributing six goals and as many assists in the first 12 matches. Hamburg, currently 14th in the Bundesliga, will miss his presence in upcoming fixtures against Hanover and Wolfsburg.
