Achraf Hakimi, the Paris Saint-Germain defender, has shared his excitement about being nominated for the 2024 CAF African Player of the Year award. This marks his second nomination for the prestigious honor, which he has yet to win. The Moroccan international will face tough competition from Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman, who has been in exceptional form this season with Atalanta.
Lookman, a standout player for both his club and the Nigerian national team, has significantly contributed to Atalanta’s historic achievement of their first-ever European title.
His impressive performances have made him one of the frontrunners for the award.
Despite the fierce competition, Hakimi remains humbled by the recognition, which he views as a testament to his hard work.
It’s an incredible honor to be nominated,” he said, adding that while winning the award would be a great achievement, he is content with the acknowledgment of his efforts.
Hakimi, who narrowly missed out on last year’s award to Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, is hopeful that this could be his year.
He shared his commitment to continuing his hard work regardless of the outcome.
Other notable nominees for the 2024 award include Ivory Coast’s Simon Adingra, South Africa’s Ronwen Williams, and Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy.
However, Lookman’s remarkable performances put him as a favorite for the title.
The winner will be announced at the CAF awards ceremony in Morocco on December 16.
