Haitham Farouk, a former Zamalek star, didn’t hold back as he tore into the club’s board and roster, urging Hussein Labib and his directors to step down after Zamalek crashed out of the CAF Confederation Cup on Wednesday.
The stinging defeat came in the quarter-finals, with the Egyptian giants falling 1-0 at home to South African side Stellenbosch in the second leg, following a scoreless first match.
“I don’t know how Zamalek fans can bear being eliminated from Africa by a team that is participating (in the tournament) for the first time in its history and succeeds in eliminating the defending champion,” Farouk said in a television interview.
He didn’t stop there he also said he was not going to spare the Zamalek board. “The defeat to Stellenbosch was deserved, and I cannot favor the board of directors at the expense of Zamalek. If I were an official at the club, I would resign immediately. I will not favor anyone at the expense of the entity.”
“There are players who don’t deserve to wear the Zamalek shirt, and everyone is completely out of focus.”
