Haggai Katoh: Central midfielder linked with move to Armenian side Gandzasar

Haggai Katoh has completed a move to Armenian Premier League side Gandzasar Kapan, signing from free agency after a spell without a club. The Nigerian central midfielder joins the Kapan outfit with an estimated market value of €100k and will be registered to play in Armenia’s top flight following his transfer from “Without Club.” His contract with Gandzasar Kapan runs from 2026-03-05 to 2027-06-30.

The deal returns the 26-year-old to Armenia, where he previously represented FC Noah Yerevan and Alashkert Yerevan FC, after a period unattached that began when he left Alashkert for free agency. Gandzasar, competing in the Armenian Premier League, have brought him in on a standard transfer, with the fee officially listed as “?” on the move from free agency, reflecting the lack of a classic club-to-club transfer sum.

Katoh, born on 29 Apr 1999 and capped as a Nigerian national, is primarily a central midfielder and right-footed. His arrival bolsters Gandzasar’s options in the middle of the park, with the club opting for a player who has already adapted to Armenian football and previously carried a higher market valuation of up to €150k during his time at FC Noah and Alashkert.

The midfielder’s career path shows a steady climb from Nigerian domestic football to the European periphery. He moved from GBS Academy in Nigeria to Akwa United, then on to Nasarawa United and Plateau United, all in his home country, before taking his first step abroad when he joined FC Noah Yerevan in the Armenian Premier League. From there he switched to Alashkert Yerevan FC, remaining in Armenia’s top division, before dropping into free agency and now signing with Gandzasar Kapan.

Market value data underline both his development and recent reset: at FC Noah, Katoh’s value rose progressively from €25k to €150k between early and late 2023, and it remained at €150k into his Alashkert spell. A subsequent period without a club saw that figure recalibrated to €100k, the valuation attached to him at the time of his Gandzasar move.

This confirmed transfer also means Katoh continues his career abroad rather than returning to Nigeria’s domestic league. Having already established himself in Armenia’s Premier League with Noah and Alashkert, his latest move keeps him in a familiar environment, but with a new club and a fresh opportunity to reassert his value.

His contract end date of 2027-06-30 gives both player and club a clear medium-term horizon. For Gandzasar, it represents a relatively low-risk acquisition of a player with prior league experience and a history of rising market value. For Katoh, the deal offers stability after a period out of contract and a platform to rebuild his trajectory in European football.

If he can reproduce the form that once made him a €150k asset in Armenia, this spell at Gandzasar Kapan could reestablish him as one of the more reliable central midfielders in the league and potentially reopen doors to bigger moves in the future.
