Habib Beye has officially taken the reins as Rennes’ head coach, tasked with turning around a team struggling in 16th place in Ligue 1.
The 47-year-old replaces Jorge Sampaoli, who saw the club plummet from 11th to 16th following a string of disappointing results. With his recent success in securing Red Star FC’s Ligue 2 promotion, Beye is eager for his next challenge, accepting a short-term deal with Rennes.
“It’s a privilege to be here,” Beye shared during his press conference. “It was the right moment for me. I had eight months to emotionally recharge and evaluate my next move. This opportunity is magnificent.”
Despite Rennes’ rocky position with 15 games left to play, Beye is excited by the challenge ahead. “We are together for an exceptional journey with fifteen milestones for us to perform,” said the former Senegal international right-back. “What motivates me are challenges.”
Beye will make his debut against Strasbourg on Sunday, a special match given his history with the club. “It’s a positive omen. I’m here at the right time, in the right place to deliver a big game.”
