Habib Beye discusses his future at Olympique de Marseille

Senegalese coach Habib Beye has addressed growing speculation about his future at Olympique de Marseille, insisting his position will depend on performance as the club targets Champions League qualification.

Beye, who signed a deal in February running until June 2027, has come under scrutiny amid reports suggesting his long-term stay could hinge on whether Marseille secure a top-three finish in Ligue 1.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, the former Stade Rennais coach made clear his focus remains on results and continued progress.

“Convinced I’ll be here next year? I’m convinced, I signed for a year and a half. Everything I have today, I deserve; I didn’t steal anything. I don’t comment on those aspects.

People who question the length of my contract, the quality of my contract, the reality is that I deserve exactly what I have. And I’ll have to earn it, again, through my work in the future. If tomorrow I want an even bigger salary, I’ll have to be an even better coach.

If tomorrow I want a 3 or 4-year contract, I’ll have to be an even better coach. I’m very happy to be under contract until 2027. Does my second year depend on Champions League qualification? It depends on several things.

But what’s certain is that I came here to qualify for the Champions League. I know what I was up against in the challenge presented to me; I arrived when we were 4th.”

He added: “In Ligue 1, we are currently 3rd. We need to continue working, with my team and with the club, to be a high-performing team and achieve the club’s objectives, and there will be no doubt about my presence here at OM next season.”

Beye’s comments underline the importance of Marseille maintaining their current position in the league standings. Having taken charge when the club were fourth, the Senegalese coach has overseen an improvement that has lifted the team into the top three, strengthening their push for Champions League football.

The situation highlights the performance-driven nature of management at the club, where expectations remain high despite a relatively short tenure. While Beye expressed confidence in his position, he also acknowledged that continued success on the pitch will be key to securing his long-term future.

With the Ligue 1 campaign entering a decisive phase, Marseille’s results in the coming weeks are likely to determine whether Beye remains in charge beyond the current season.
