Gulf Cup: UAE finish top of Group B after draw with Qatar

The United Arab Emirates finished top of Group B at the Gulf Cup after drawing 1-1 with Qatar in the final round of group matches.

Qatar took the lead in the 33rd minute through Almoez Ali, but the UAE levelled shortly before half-time when Ali Saleh scored in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

The result left both sides on seven points, with the UAE claiming first place on goal difference. The UAE scored eight goals and conceded one, while Qatar scored four and also allowed one goal.

Qatar advanced from second place in the group, behind the UAE despite the teams having identical records on points and goals conceded.

In the group’s other match, Yemen ended their campaign with a 5-2 victory over Bahrain in a match with no qualification implications.

Bahrain made the stronger start, taking the lead through Ali Al-Doseri in the sixth minute. Yemen responded with four goals before the break to establish a 4-1 advantage.

Nasser Al-Ghashi equalised for Yemen in the 18th minute before Abdulwasea Al-Mutairi put them ahead 13 minutes later.

Rami Ali Al-Wasmani added Yemen’s third in the 40th minute, and Adel Abbas scored in the 44th minute to complete a dominant first-half display.

Bahrain reduced the deficit in the 67th minute through Ali Jaafar Madan, but Yemen restored their three-goal advantage when Al-Wasmani scored again in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

Yemen finished third in Group B with three points. Bahrain ended the tournament without a point.
