Guinea’s Ilaix Moriba attracts interest across Europe following resurgent season at Celta Vigo

Ilaix Moriba has emerged as a hot prospect in the summer transfer market following an impressive campaign on loan at Celta Vigo, with several top-tier European clubs closely monitoring the Guinean midfielder’s situation.

The 21-year-old, who is currently contracted to Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, featured in 34 matches this season for Celta, contributing one goal and one assist.

While his numbers may not immediately stand out, his consistent performances and renewed dynamism in midfield have made him a key asset for the La Liga club — and sparked interest from across the continent.

In the Premier League, West Ham United and Brighton & Hove Albion are both reported to be exploring the possibility of bringing Moriba to England. In Spain, Sevilla FC are believed to be keen on retaining the midfielder’s talents within La Liga. Meanwhile, in Portugal, FC Porto have also expressed interest, keeping a close eye on his availability ahead of a potential move.

Despite the mounting interest, Celta Vigo retain a degree of control over Moriba’s future. As part of the loan agreement with RB Leipzig, the Galician club hold an option to purchase the midfielder permanently for €6 million. However, finalising that deal will hinge on one crucial factor — Moriba’s salary.

While Celta remain eager to secure his services on a long-term basis, aligning his wages with their financial capabilities presents a significant challenge.

The salary package Moriba receives at Leipzig is well above the scale Celta can currently offer, meaning negotiations will be essential before any permanent deal can be confirmed.

This financial hurdle remains the primary obstacle in what otherwise appears to be a mutually beneficial relationship. Moriba himself has publicly expressed his satisfaction with life at Celta Vigo, describing the club as a place where he has rediscovered his rhythm and confidence after a period of uncertainty and successive loan spells.

Having struggled for consistency following his departure from Barcelona and limited opportunities at RB Leipzig, the midfielder has found a new sense of stability in Galicia.

His physical presence, passing ability, and improved discipline on the pitch have impressed coaching staff and supporters alike, leading many to believe he could play a pivotal role in Celta’s ambitions moving forward.

Celta’s management now face a critical decision: whether to make a financial stretch in order to secure Moriba’s signature permanently, or risk losing him to one of several interested suitors across Europe. For clubs such as West Ham, Brighton, and Porto, the delay could offer an opening to swoop in should negotiations falter.

As the summer window approaches, the future of one of Guinea’s most promising talents remains uncertain. What is clear, however, is that Ilaix Moriba’s resurgence has not gone unnoticed — and he may soon have a crucial choice to make about the next chapter in his career.
