Serhou Guirassy continued his fine goalscoring form as Borussia Dortmund edged TSG Hoffenheim 3-2 in a thrilling Bundesliga encounter on Saturday, keeping their push for UEFA Champions League qualification alive.
Guirassy, fresh from scoring four times in his previous two matches, opened the scoring in the 20th minute.
His initial effort was ruled out for offside, but a VAR review overturned the decision, confirming that both he and Daniel Svensson had remained onside in the build-up.
The goal provided Dortmund with an early advantage and boosted their confidence on the road.
However, Guirassy’s afternoon was not without its setbacks. He missed the chance to double Dortmund’s lead when Oliver Baumann, Hoffenheim’s goalkeeper, saved his penalty attempt with a superb dive to the left.
Despite the setback, Dortmund maintained control for much of the first half, and Hoffenheim had a goal disallowed just before the break when Anton Stach’s effort was ruled offside.
After the interval, the hosts fought back, and Adam Hlozek fired a powerful equaliser past Gregor Kobel, latching onto a well-controlled pass on his chest.
Dortmund responded quickly, restoring their lead when Julian Brandt produced a brilliant volley from Svensson’s deep cross, a moment of individual quality that seemed destined to secure all three points.
Yet, Hoffenheim were not finished, and Pavel Kaderabek headed in a dramatic equaliser during stoppage time, threatening to undo Dortmund’s hard work.
In a final twist, Waldemar Anton emerged as the hero, calmly slotting home after a chaotic passage of play inside the Hoffenheim box.
A VAR check confirmed the goal, ensuring that Dortmund clinched a crucial victory.
With this result, Dortmund tightened their grip on sixth place and closed the gap to the Bundesliga’s top four to just three points.
