Paris Saint-Germain’s hopes of signing Guinea international Serhou Guirassy have suffered a significant setback, with the club facing a complex transfer hurdle in their bid to secure the prolific Borussia Dortmund striker.
Guirassy, who has found the net 33 times in 44 appearances across all competitions, has emerged as a key target for the French champions as they look to reinforce their attacking options ahead of the upcoming season.
His remarkable goal-scoring record, which includes 28 goals in just 28 Bundesliga matches during his final campaign with Stuttgart, has made him one of Europe’s most sought-after forwards.
Since his arrival at Borussia Dortmund last summer, the 29-year-old has continued to deliver on expectations, further enhancing his reputation with consistent performances at the top level.
PSG, in their search for a true number nine, have identified Guirassy as a priority signing. However, the club now faces a significant barrier in pursuing the deal.
According to Sport Bild, the French side’s ambitions have been complicated by the terms of Guirassy’s current contract. His release clause, reportedly set at €70 million, includes a rare stipulation—only seven clubs are eligible to trigger it.
These are FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool.
Paris Saint-Germain is notably absent from this exclusive list, which means the Ligue 1 giants cannot simply activate the clause to force a move.
Instead, they would be required to engage in direct negotiations with Borussia Dortmund, a process that could see them pay significantly more than the €70 million stipulated for other clubs.
This contractual detail places PSG in a weaker bargaining position and casts serious doubt over their ability to finalise the transfer.
With several of Europe’s top clubs also monitoring Guirassy’s situation and able to trigger the clause without negotiation, the road ahead for PSG appears increasingly difficult.
The striker’s explosive form and proven goal-scoring prowess make him a natural fit for PSG’s ambitions, especially with uncertainties surrounding the club’s current attacking setup.
However, unless Dortmund is willing to entertain an offer outside the release clause or Guirassy pushes for a move specifically to Paris, the transfer may ultimately fall through.
For now, PSG’s interest remains strong, but the structural complexities of the deal may prompt the club to explore alternative options as the summer transfer window approaches.
Guirassy, meanwhile, continues to focus on his role at Dortmund, where he has quickly become a central figure since his arrival.
As it stands, the French club’s pursuit of the Guinean forward appears to have stalled, leaving supporters and analysts alike questioning whether PSG will be able to overcome the financial and contractual challenges required to bring one of Europe’s most clinical strikers to the Parc des Princes.
