The Guinean Professional Football League (LGFP) has confirmed that the 2024/2025 Guinean Ligue 1 season will officially commence on January 9, 2025.
The announcement follows a series of intense negotiations between the league’s governing body and representatives from the participating clubs.
The decision was reached during a meeting held on Thursday, January 2, 2025, where stakeholders finally agreed on the start date for the first division national championship.
This development signals a significant step forward for Guinean football as it prepares for the new season.
Financial support fund established for clubs
In addition to finalizing the start date, the LGFP unveiled plans for a financial support fund to assist clubs during the upcoming season.
The fund, valued at a minimum of 120 million Guinean francs, will be distributed in two installments.
The first payment will be made before the 12th matchday, with the second installment scheduled for disbursement before the 20th matchday.
This financial initiative aims to provide clubs with much-needed resources to navigate the challenges of the season.
It reflects the LGFP’s commitment to promoting a competitive and sustainable league by addressing some of the financial concerns raised by the participating teams.
Challenging negotiations lead to resolution
The journey to this agreement was marked by prolonged and, at times, tense discussions between the LGFP and certain Ligue 1 clubs.
Differences over financial and logistical matters had delayed the announcement of the start date, but the successful resolution now allows teams to focus on preparations for the season ahead.
