Guinea dealt major blow as Serhou Guirassy ruled out of Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers

Guinea will be without leading scorer Serhou Guirassy for their Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying double-header against Eritrea.

The Borussia Dortmund striker suffered a thigh injury and underwent examinations which provided reassurance about the nature of the problem. However, he is expected to be unavailable for between four and six weeks.

His absence rules Guinean manager Paulo Duarte out of using his main attacking threat for the third and fourth rounds of qualifying. The former Stuttgart player’s injury leaves a significant gap in Guinea’s forward line ahead of the crucial meetings with Eritrea.

Duarte’s coaching staff must now quickly reshape the team’s attacking approach to compensate for the loss. Guinea’s alternative options will be required to step up and lead the national side’s attack in Guirassy’s absence.
