Guinea has made a late squad adjustment ahead of their 2026 World Cup qualifiers, with midfielder Cheick Condé drafted in to replace the injured Ibrahima Bangoura.
Head coach Michel Dussuyer was forced into the change after Bangoura, who was initially included in the squad, was ruled out following medical assessments.
The Guinean Football Federation confirmed that Condé, who plays for Italian side Venezia FC, will take his place in the squad for the upcoming fixtures against Somalia on March 21 and Uganda on March 25.
The federation released a statement detailing the switch, stating: “Cheick Condé (Venezia FC) replaces Ibrahima Sory Bangoura (KRC Genk).
The Venezia player is expected to join the Syli National training camp this evening to fill in for Bangoura, who was set to make his international debut.
Bangoura underwent additional medical tests at our request, and we are awaiting the results.”
Condé, who was part of Guinea’s training camp in November 2024, now has another opportunity to impress in the national setup.
Despite initially being overlooked for this squad, he will now join the team as they prepare for their crucial World Cup qualifying matches.
Guinea will be aiming to make a strong start to their qualification campaign, with the two fixtures playing a key role in their hopes of reaching the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
