Guinea-Bissau stun Nigeria with 3-0 win in CAN 2027 qualifying

Guinea-Bissau produced a memorable result on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, beating Nigeria 3-0 at home in the second round of qualifying for CAN 2027.

The Djurtus established control early and maintained their advantage throughout a dominant performance against one of African football’s leading sides. Their victory was secured by goals from Franculino Dju, Mama Balde and Alvaro Djalo.

Franculino Dju puts Guinea-Bissau ahead

Guinea-Bissau needed only 15 minutes to move in front. Franculino Dju found the net to give the hosts an early lead and put Nigeria under pressure.

The Djurtus then combined defensive solidity with disciplined play in possession. Nigeria attempted to respond before half-time, but Guinea-Bissau protected their advantage and went into the interval ahead.

Nigeria unable to break down hosts

The Super Eagles made several attacking adjustments after the restart in an effort to change the course of the match.

However, those changes failed to unlock a well-organised Guinea-Bissau defence. The hosts allowed Nigeria’s forwards very little space and repeatedly prevented the visitors from creating a clear route back into the game.

With Nigeria searching for an equaliser, Mama Balde extended Guinea-Bissau’s lead in the 66th minute. The forward’s goal doubled the advantage and put the Djurtus in a strong position to claim a notable victory.

Nigeria were unable to recover from conceding for a second time. Despite already being two goals behind, the Super Eagles could not alter the momentum of the match, while Guinea-Bissau continued to manage the game with composure.

The hosts then added a third goal deep into stoppage time. Alvaro Djalo scored in the 90+5th minute to complete the victory and confirm the scale of Nigeria’s defeat.

The 3-0 result gives Guinea-Bissau a significant success in their CAN 2027 qualifying campaign and represents a commanding home display against Nigeria.
