Greek Super Lig outfit Panathinaikos are keen on keeping Moroccan forward Azzedine Ounahi at the club for next season.
The 25-year-old midfielder, who joined from Panathinaikos on loan from Olympique Marseille last summer, found his stride late in the campaign under coach Rui Vitória.
Despite his impressive form, a permanent deal appears unlikely at this stage, with the Greek club unable to meet the €11.5 million purchase option due to financial limitations.
Panathinaikos head coach Rui Vitória has openly expressed his desire to keep the Moroccan star in his squad, especially as the club prepares for the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League.
However, Marseille’s financial situation complicates any potential deal. With the French club under pressure to comply with DNCG and UEFA financial regulations ahead of the June 30 accounting deadline, President Pablo Longoria is focused on raising funds through player sales.
As a result, the club will be asking for more from the Greek club should they decide to pursue a permanent signing of Azzedine Ounahi.
While Panathinaikos look for a way out, the club wants to explore the option of signing the Moroccan on loan for another year.
