Goodman Mosele: Orlando Pirates midfielder completes permanent move to Chippa United and named captain
Goodman Mosele has left Orlando Pirates to join Chippa United on a permanent deal and will captain the club in the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.
The 26-year-old midfielder had been expected to join Durban City on a season-long loan, but Chippa United stepped in late to secure his signature and persuade him to move to Gqeberha instead.
Chippa confirmed the transfer on Thursday, announcing that Mosele, who has already spent two spells on loan with the club, will now lead the team as captain.
“The River has found its course,” the club said in a statement. “Now it leads the way. Goodman Mosele is officially a permanent Chilli Boy and our captain for the 2026/27 season.”
Mosele’s path to Gqeberha
Mosele originally joined Orlando Pirates in July 2021 from Baroka FC for an undisclosed fee.
During his time with the Soweto giants, he made 53 appearances in the club’s black and white colours, before seeing his game time increasingly come away from Orlando Stadium.
He first moved to Chippa United on loan for the 2023/24 season and returned for another loan spell in 2025/26, becoming a regular presence in midfield. Across those two campaigns in Gqeberha, he played 55 matches for the Chilli Boys, convincing the club to push for a permanent switch.
Hijacked loan move
Going into the new campaign, Mosele appeared set for a fresh start at Durban City on a temporary basis, with a season-long loan understood to be close to completion.
However, Chippa United acted late in the window to change the course of the transfer. The Eastern Cape side “hijacked” the proposed deal, securing Mosele on a full-time contract rather than a loan move elsewhere.
His decision to commit his future to Chippa, combined with the captaincy, underlines his growing importance to the club after two productive spells on loan.
New captain set for league opener
Chippa United, coached by Brandon Truter, will begin their 2026/27 Betway Premiership campaign against Golden Arrows at King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday.
Mosele is expected to play a central role as the newly appointed captain, leading the Chilli Boys into the new season after finally making Gqeberha his permanent football home.
