Golden Arrows are reportedly preparing to bid farewell to co-coach Mabhuti Khenyeza following their recent 3-2 victory over Cape Town City.
According to Sportswire, the match may have been Khenyeza’s final appearance in the dugout for the South African side.
Tensions between the 42-year-old coach and several players are believed to be at the root of his impending departure.
Khenyeza, a former striker with a storied history at Golden Arrows, has contributed significantly to the club both on and off the pitch.
Khenyeza’s journey with Golden Arrows began during his playing days and evolved into multiple coaching roles.
His impact was particularly notable during the 2014/15 season, when he helped guide the club back to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) under then-coach Shaun Bartlett.
However, Khenyeza’s initial coaching tenure at Arrows ended the following season due to disagreements with head coach Clinton Larsen.
He went on to serve as an assistant coach at several PSL clubs, including Maritzburg United, AmaZulu, and TS Galaxy, before returning to Golden Arrows in October 2020.
Upon his return, Khenyeza was appointed assistant coach to Mandla Ncikazi, contributing to Arrows’ impressive fourth-place finish during the 2020/21 season.
After Ncikazi’s departure for Orlando Pirates, Khenyeza remained in a supporting role under Lehlohonolo Seema, who was later dismissed in March 2022.
Following Seema’s exit, Khenyeza was promoted to co-coach alongside Vusi Vilakazi for the remainder of the season.
After Vilakazi’s departure last year, Khenyeza briefly served as the sole head coach until the arrival of Steve Komphela, who left after just one season.
This year, Khenyeza returned to a shared coaching setup, partnering with Musa Bilankulu.
Recent developments suggest that former Golden Arrows captain Kagiso Dikgacoi, now part of the coaching staff, may take on a more prominent role.
Dikgacoi’s extensive experience, including stints at Fulham, Crystal Palace, and Cardiff City, has reportedly resonated well with some players, potentially paving the way for a new leadership dynamic at the club.
As Khenyeza’s future with Golden Arrows appears uncertain, the club is poised for another shift in its coaching structure.
With tensions behind the scenes and changes on the horizon, the coming weeks could mark the start of a new chapter for the Durban-based team.
