The United States clinched their 5th Gold Cup title by defeating Panama with a score of 1-0. The decisive goal of the match was scored by Brek Shea in the 69th minute.
Despite being without their coach Jurgen Klinsmann (suspended), the team led by Landon Donovan secured the victory, coming one step closer to their arch-rivals Mexico, who have won the Gold Cup six times. Mexico had previously deprived the United States of this trophy twice in a row in 2009 and 2011.
