Al Ahly has been named the best club of 2012 in Africa. The Egyptian champion, who also won the CAF Champions League, was awarded the honor ahead of Esperance de Tunis (runners-up in the Champions League) and Leopards du Congo (winners of the CAF Cup). Despite being the African representative in the Club World Cup in Japan, Al Ahly was eliminated in the semi-finals by Brazilian side Corinthians. The award was presented by Kalusha Bwalya, the president of the Zambian Football Federation.
