Ghazl El Mahalla’s return to league action turned bitter as the club voiced strong anger at refereeing decisions that overshadowed their 2-1 defeat to Al Masry on Wednesday night in Port Said.

For a team whose supporters pride themselves on resilience and fair play, the evening ended in frustration and disappointment.

In an official statement, the club said: “The board of directors of Ghazl El Mahalla Football Company expresses its deep dissatisfaction with the refereeing scandal that marred the team’s match against Al-Masry Club, in which referee Mahmoud Bassiouni, assisted by the video technology crew, played a major role. The incident brought to mind the refereeing disaster committed by the same referee in the match against Zamalek last season, which included grave errors and repercussions that led to his suspension.”

The statement further criticized missed red card calls, a disallowed goal by Ahmed Shoka, and a controversial penalty against Mahalla.

It ended firmly, stressing the club will never accept Mahmoud Bassiouni officiating their matches again as they push for fairness and accountability.
