Al Ahly coach Jose Riveiro admitted his side ran into a tough defense against Ghazl El Mahalla in their Egyptian Premier League clash.
He said the contest was as tough as expected and praised his players for trying to push through.
“We tried to control and possess possession against a team that excels at defensive organization, and we created numerous opportunities,” Riveiro said in a press conference today.
“There was a shot by Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet that bounced off the left post, and the same thing happened in the second half with a shot by Achraf Dari that hit the crossbar.”
“We’re not happy with the result. We wanted to win, but it didn’t happen, especially with the opponent’s defensive formation. We had more than seven clear chances, and Al Ahly is an offensive team that is fierce and always wants to win.”
Riveiro also stood by his captain, Mohamed El-Shenawy, highlighting his strength and leadership despite a painful personal loss. He stressed the team will stay focused and keep working to improve results.
