West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) Chief Executive Officer George Ofosuhene has cast doubt on Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, citing the Black Stars’ recent struggles on the international stage.
Following their failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Ghana now shifts focus to the World Cup, set to be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
However, their poor run of form in recent tournaments has raised concerns about their ability to secure a place at the global event.
The Black Stars endured a disappointing AFCON qualification campaign, finishing last in Group F.
Under the management of Otto Addo, the team managed only three draws and suffered three defeats, resulting in their first AFCON absence in over two decades.
Speaking to Sporty FM, Ofosuhene expressed his skepticism about Ghana’s World Cup ambitions, stating that the country is failing to take the necessary steps to ensure success.
“I don’t see Ghana qualifying for the 2026 World Cup because we are not doing things right. Sometimes in football, surprises happen, but sometimes you can’t do anything about it,” he said.
Ofosuhene further pointed to Ghana’s inability to secure AFCON qualification as an indicator of the challenges ahead in the World Cup qualifiers.
“If we cannot qualify in a group with Niger for the AFCON, do you think we can qualify for the World Cup? Ghana will not qualify for the World Cup.”
Despite these concerns, Ghana remains in contention for a World Cup berth as they prepare to resume their qualification campaign in March.
The Black Stars currently sit second in Group I, level on nine points with Comoros after four matches.
Their upcoming fixtures against Chad and Madagascar will be crucial in determining their fate in the race for a place at the 2026 tournament.
