Ghanaian international Christopher Antwi-Adjei was subjected to racist abuse during his Schalke 04 side’s DFB-Pokal first-round clash against FC Lokomotive Leipzig on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
The incident took place in the 13th minute when Antwi-Adjei went to take a throw-in and was targeted by offensive remarks from a home supporter. After the player raised the matter, the referee halted play for a stadium announcement.
Shockingly, sections of the home crowd responded by booing Antwi-Adjei every time he touched the ball until the final whistle — a reaction that drew widespread condemnation.
The Ghanaian international has since filed a police report, with investigations now underway.
Speaking after the match, Antwi-Adjei expressed his disappointment, stating: “It’s very disappointing to have to experience something like this in this day and age. It’s not acceptable. I hope this person reflects on their actions.”
In his post-game speech, Antwi-Adjei said: “It’s very disappointing to have to experience something like this in this day and age. It’s not acceptable. I hope this person reflects on their actions.”
