Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, is poised to embark on a strategic training camp in South Africa. Led by coach Chris Hughton, the squad will spend approximately ten days in Johannesburg, commencing their preparations on December 31, 2023.

A key element of Ghana’s pre-tournament training will be a friendly match against Botswana scheduled for January 8, 2024, in Johannesburg.

This friendly encounter is strategically positioned as part of the Black Stars’ comprehensive preparation strategy before they depart for the AFCON tournament set to unfold in Ivory Coast from January 13 to February 11, 2024.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) released a statement outlining the team’s schedule, affirming, “The Black Stars will gather in Johannesburg, South Africa on Sunday, December 31, 2023, to begin preparing for the Africa Cup of Nations TotalEnergies Côte d’Ivoire 2023.

The team will spend approximately ten days in South Africa to prepare for Africa’s flagship competition.” The statement also emphasized that training sessions during this period will not be open to the public or media.

Ghana’s journey in the 2023 AFCON will commence with a challenging Group B lineup, featuring encounters against Cape Verde on January 14, Egypt on January 18, and Mozambique on January 22, 2024.

The team’s strategic approach to training and the inclusion of a friendly match against Botswana underscores their commitment to fine-tuning their performance ahead of the continental showdown.

As the Black Stars embark on this crucial training phase, football enthusiasts anticipate a polished and competitive performance from Ghana in the upcoming AFCON, adding an extra layer of excitement to the much-anticipated tournament in Ivory Coast.
