Ghana’s Black Maidens demolish Liberia in U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifier

Ghana’s U17 women’s national team, the Black Maidens, edged closer to securing their place in the final round of qualification for the U17 Women’s World Cup with a thumping 6-0 win over Liberia at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.

The hosts dominated proceedings from the onset and their intensity eventually paid off in the 31st minute when Daniella Abass finished calmly after sustained pressure, rewarding a spell of relentless attacking play that had repeatedly stretched the visitors’ defence.

Second-half surge overwhelms Liberia

After the break, the Maidens returned with heightened energy and increased tempo, immediately asserting themselves once again. They doubled their advantage in the 53rd minute through a composed penalty from Seidatu Wahab, who kept her composure to send the goalkeeper the wrong way and extend the lead.

Four minutes later, Linda Achiaa added a well-taken third goal, finishing with composure after a fluid attacking sequence that cut through the Liberian backline with precision and pace.

Commanding lead ahead of return leg

With momentum fully on their side, Ghana continued to dominate proceedings, and the goals kept coming. Jessica Appiah made it 4-0 in the 60th minute after a well-worked move, before Priscilla Mensah added a fifth in the 73rd minute to further compound Liberia’s misery.

Mavis Yeboah then completed the rout in the 90th minute, ensuring a resounding 6-0 victory that reflected their superiority from start to finish.

Ghana in pole position for qualification

The comprehensive win places the Black Maidens in a commanding position heading into the second leg of the qualifiers, with confidence high within the camp after a near-perfect attacking and defensive display.

The performance highlighted the team’s cohesion, tactical awareness, and clinical edge in front of goal, as they overwhelmed their opponents across all areas of the pitch. Liberia struggled to cope with the pace and movement of the Ghanaian side, who maintained pressure throughout both halves and showed no signs of easing off despite the growing scoreline.
