Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo, has emphatically affirmed his complete support for the Black Stars as they finalize preparations for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
President Akufo-Addo joined the players and coaching staff for a farewell dinner at the team’s camp in Kumasi before their departure to Abidjan on Wednesday, January 10.
The team conducted its final training session in Ghana at the Baba Yara Stadium before the evening dinner.
During his address to the team, President Akufo-Addo stated, “Understand that you have the support of Ghanaians; give it your all and make us proud.”
He added, “The government, with active support from the Sad Friday Agreement, has made all necessary arrangements.”
“We must go beyond this and put an end to the 41-year drought.
The task may seem challenging, but it is achievable,” he continued.
Ghana will commence its AFCON journey in Ivory Coast on Sunday, January 14, facing Cape Verde before subsequent matches against Egypt and Mozambique.
The President’s presence at the team’s farewell dinner underscores the national significance of the Black Stars’ campaign in the continental tournament.
As the squad sets its sights on breaking a four-decade-long trophy drought, the backing from the highest office in the country serves as a motivating force for the players and fosters a sense of national unity.
The President’s encouragement aligns with the broader efforts of the government, signaling a collective commitment to supporting Ghana’s representation on the international football stage.
The anticipation among Ghanaians is palpable, and the President’s words resonate as a call for the team to transcend expectations and script a historic chapter in Ghanaian football.
As the Black Stars embark on this significant journey, they carry not just their own aspirations but the hopes and dreams of an entire nation eager for success on the AFCON stage.
