Alidu Seidu says signing a new deal with Stade Rennais is a moment of pride, as he works tirelessly to recover from a serious knee injury that has sidelined him since November.
The Ghanaian international, who arrived at Rennes from Clermont Foot, had made 11 Ligue 1 appearances this season before suffering a torn cruciate ligament in his left knee during a clash against Lille on November 24.
The 24-year-old was forced off just 18 minutes into the match, and he has not featured since.
Despite the long road to recovery ahead, Rennes showed their faith in the defender by handing him a contract extension on 28 March, tying him to the club until 2028.
Speaking in an interview published on the club’s official website, Seidu expressed deep appreciation for the support he has received from all quarters since arriving in Brittany.
“It’s a huge honour to have extended with the club and to continue this wonderful adventure,” Seidu said. “I’m very happy.
I thank everyone who contributes to making me feel good at Rennes: the staff, the management, my teammates. We must also highlight the very strong support from the fans.”
The injury was a cruel blow to the young defender, who had been settling in well following his mid-season transfer.
Known for his tenacity and versatility across the backline, Seidu had quickly earned the trust of his new manager and fans alike before his season was abruptly halted.
Now, with months of rehabilitation behind him and more to come, Seidu is focused on regaining full fitness.
The defender has been working closely with medical staff at the club’s training facilities, and though a return date has not been confirmed, the Ghanaian remains optimistic.
“Right now, it’s about staying strong mentally and following the recovery programme. I’m doing everything I can to come back even stronger,” he added.
Seidu’s commitment has not gone unnoticed. Rennes, who currently sit in the top half of the Ligue 1 table, see the young defender as a vital part of their long-term project.
His blend of athleticism, commitment, and leadership has earned praise from within the club and among supporters.
The contract extension is also seen as a sign of Rennes’ trust in Seidu’s potential, despite the injury setback.
The club’s management views him as an integral part of their defensive plans moving forward, and they are confident he will make a strong return once fully recovered.
For Seidu, the next few months will be about patience, perseverance, and continued progress behind the scenes.
But with the backing of the club and fans, the Ghanaian international remains hopeful of making his mark once more in the Rennes shirt.
