Ghana midfielder Francis Abu suffers horrendous injury in Kirin Cup against Japan

Ghana international Francis Abu has suffered a horrendous injury that could keep him out for the rest of the 2025/26 football season.

The midfielder was in action for the Black Stars on Friday morning when the team locked horns with Japan in the 2025 Kirin Challenge Cup.

Although Abu lasted the entire first half, his time on the pitch in the second half was minimal.

The youngster suffered a broken leg injury in the 56th minute and had to make way for defender Alidu Seidu.

The horrendous injury has caused a lot of fear among Ghanaian fans. Many believe that with the Black Stars lacking quality in midfield, Abu would be an important player for the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Following Friday’s injury, it is unclear whether the midfielder would recover in time to make the Ghana squad for next year’s global tournament.
