World Cup 2026: Dan Gaspar backs Ghana goalkeepers to shine against England, Croatia
Goalkeeping coach of Ghana’s Black Stars, Dan Gasper, has backed goalkeepers of the national team to excel at the 2026 FIFA World Cup where they will face the likes of Panama, England, and Croatia.
With only weeks remaining before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Ghana national team continues preparations for what is expected to be one of the toughest groups in the competition, featuring England, Croatia and Panama.
Gaspar has previously worked with national teams including Portugal national football team, Iran national football team and South Africa national football team alongside Queiroz. He has also enjoyed coaching spells with Portuguese giants FC Porto and SL Benfica.
The upcoming tournament will mark Gaspar’s third FIFA World Cup appearance after previously participating with Portugal in 2010 and Iran in 2014.
“Ghana’s Goalkeepers Are The Best In The World”
Speaking in an interview with Kooora, Gaspar expressed strong confidence in Ghana’s goalkeeping department, insisting the Black Stars possess the quality needed to compete against top nations.
The experienced coach praised goalkeepers Lawrence Ziggy, Joseph Anang and Benjamin Asare, describing them as capable of keeping clean sheets even against strong opponents such as England and Croatia.
“Yes, we have that. But keeping a clean sheet is never the goalkeeper’s sole responsibility. Defensive organization starts with the entire team’s mentality and discipline,” Gaspar said.
Keys To Stopping Harry Kane
Gaspar also spoke about his methods for preparing goalkeepers to face elite strikers such as Harry Kane, stressing the importance of courage, communication and decision making under pressure.
“In the World Cup, a goalkeeper must possess courage, emotional control, leadership, communication skills, and the ability to make crucial decisions under pressure. We have great faith in our goalkeepers. Keeping a clean sheet is a collective effort,” he added.
Praise For Cristiano Ronaldo
During the interview, Gaspar also reflected on his experience working with Cristiano Ronaldo, whom he described as an exceptional professional because of his discipline and constant desire to improve.
The veteran coach further shared his views on the evolution of the goalkeeping role and modern goalkeeper selection as Ghana continues its countdown to the World Cup. He believes Gianluigi Buffon was the best of his generation.
