Former Ghanaian striker Charles Taylor has expressed his endorsement for Michael Essien as the potential coach to lead the national team to revitalization.
Following the departure of Chris Hughton from the coaching role for the Black Stars, the Ghana Football Federation (GFA) established a committee tasked with the responsibility of identifying a new coach.
The president of the GFA, Mark Addo, confirmed that they have received an overwhelming response, with over 500 applications being considered.
In a recent interview on Onua FM, Charles Taylor voiced his recommendation for Michael Essien to assume the coaching responsibilities for the Black Stars.
Taylor emphasized the importance of appointing individuals capable of contributing to the resurgence of Ghanaian football.
“We need to know that the right people are available to revive Ghanaian football. I would suggest that we consider Michael Essien for the coaching position. Essien with Stephen Appiah and Laryea Kingston,” Taylor asserted.
According to Taylor, the trio of Essien, Appiah, and Kingston, former players known for their tenacity, possess the essential qualities to command respect and instill discipline among the players, crucial elements for the rejuvenation of the national team.
However, emerging reports indicate that while Essien is being considered for a role in the national team, it might be as the assistant coach rather than the head coach.
Michael Essien, who obtained UEFA A and UEFA Elite Youth coaching licenses last year, brings a wealth of experience from his playing career, positioning him as a valuable asset in the potential revival of the Black Stars.
The GFA’s decision on the coaching position remains eagerly awaited, with the football community keen to witness the next chapter in Ghana’s football leadership.
