Nigerian international Moses Simon faces growing interest from top European clubs as the summer transfer window approaches. Despite the mounting speculation, former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has expressed his desire for the winger to continue his career in France.
Simon, 29, has been a pivotal figure for FC Nantes since his arrival from Levante in 2019.
His consistent performances have not gone unnoticed, with clubs like AS Roma, Olympique Marseille, and OGC Nice reportedly monitoring his situation.
However, Rohr believes that staying in France would be beneficial for Simon’s career.
“Moses Simon would thrive in France,” Rohr stated. “He’s a very pleasant player to coach, who poses no problems. He’s hardworking and a good listener. When he arrives at a club, he puts himself at the service of the team. Because his statistics prove that he’s a footballer who knows how to score and make others score.”
Simon has made significant contributions to Nantes, amassing over 30 goals and 30 assists in more than 160 appearances.
His impact was particularly notable during the 2024–25 season, where he achieved a milestone by becoming the club’s all-time assist leader in Ligue 1, surpassing the late Emiliano Sala .
Despite Nantes’ struggles in the league, Simon’s individual performances have been commendable.
He was named the club’s Player of the Month for December 2024 and included in Ligue 1’s Team of the Month for September 2024 .
Rohr, who currently manages the Benin national team, emphasized Simon’s value to any squad.
“He’s invaluable to his team’s offensive performance,” Rohr added. “His winger position won’t make him a player who can score 20 or 25 goals per season, but he’s invaluable to his team’s offensive performance.”
While Simon has previously attracted interest from clubs in England and Germany, he has remained loyal to Nantes, extending his contract until 2026 .
His commitment to the club and consistent form make him a valuable asset, and Rohr’s endorsement further underscores his importance in the French league.
As the transfer window looms, Simon’s future remains uncertain.
However, with strong performances and endorsements from figures like Rohr, staying in France could prove to be a strategic move for the Nigerian winger.
