German-Ivorian winger Serge Gnabry set to stay at Bayern for final year of contract

Serge Gnabry will remain with Bayern Munich for the 2025/26 season, the club’s management has confirmed, with the German-Ivorian winger expected to see out the final year of his current deal.

The decision comes despite Gnabry’s underwhelming output last season, during which he managed just three goals in 24 Bundesliga appearances.

Born in Germany to an Ivorian father, the 30-year-old has been at Bayern since 2017, having previously played for Arsenal.

Despite his form dipping in recent months, Gnabry’s versatility—being able to play on both flanks, behind the striker, or as cover for Harry Kane—has ensured his continued value to the squad.

According to club sources, Bayern’s hierarchy agreed before the Club World Cup to retain Gnabry for at least one more season, citing his experience and positive influence in the dressing room.

Manager Vincent Kompany sees the winger as a key squad player for both domestic and European competitions.

Gnabry has attracted interest from Newcastle United this summer, but Bayern have opted against a sale, valuing his contribution both on and off the pitch.

He remains one of the team’s senior figures and is regarded as a dependable option in a season expected to demand squad depth.

With his contract set to expire in June 2026, Gnabry will likely enter the campaign knowing this could be his final chapter at the Allianz Arena.

However, the club’s decision to keep him signals faith in his ability to bounce back and contribute meaningfully under a new tactical setup.
