German-Cameroonian striker Youssoufa Moukoko completes move from Dortmund to Copenhagen after underwhelming loan at Nice

Youssoufa Moukoko has officially departed Borussia Dortmund, joining FC Copenhagen following a muted loan stint at Nice and a difficult return to his parent club.

The German striker’s season-long loan at Nice resulted in just two goals and two assists across 22 appearances, falling short of expectations.

Dortmund subsequently opted not to incorporate him into their first-team plans, paving the way for the move to Denmark, which was finalised on Saturday.

“After a loan spell that did not yield the desired results, we wish him a successful new start in Copenhagen, in a sporting environment that will allow him to fully exploit his potential,” Dortmund sporting director Lars Ricken stated.

Once celebrated as a teenage prodigy, Moukoko set youth football alight with an uncanny goal-scoring record, but he struggled to replicate that impact in senior football.

Despite early debuts and high hopes, neither in Ligue 1 with Nice nor in the Bundesliga with Dortmund did he manage to establish consistent case for inclusion.

In an emotional farewell message posted by the club, Moukoko expressed gratitude to the Dortmund community: “Saying goodbye to a club like BVB is not easy.

This club, my teammates, my coaches and the fans will always be important to me. I thank the entire BVB family. I will remain a supporter and I hope to see you in the Champions League.”

At just 19 years old, Moukoko arrives at FC Copenhagen seeking to harness his untapped potential in a fresh setting.

The Danish side, renowned for fostering young talent and providing regular European competition exposure, could represent the ideal environment for him to regain form and confidence.

Copenhagen are expected to introduce Moukoko ahead of pre-season, where he will undergo medical assessments before being officially unveiled.

Their squad, ambitious both domestically and in continental tournaments, offers a platform for Moukoko to showcase his skills and rebuild his reputation.

For Dortmund, the transfer closes a chapter on one of youth football’s most hyped prospects. They retain a keen interest in his progress, with the hope that Copenhagen’s nurturing environment will allow Moukoko to develop into the player once envisioned during his early career breakout.

Moukoko’s move to Copenhagen marks a new phase in his journey. Leaving behind the weight of early promise, he now faces a fresh challenge: proving his worth as a professional and reigniting a career that once held enormous expectations.
