German-born midfielder of Burkinabe descent, Assan Ouedraogo, is nearing a return to action following a spell on the sidelines.

The 19-year-old, who plays for RB Leipzig, sustained a tendon injury in his left knee in mid-January. At the time, the Bundesliga side confirmed that the young midfielder was expected to be out until at least the end of March.

Recent reports from Bild suggest that Ouedraogo has made encouraging progress in his recovery. He has just completed a ten-day rehabilitation programme at the Red Bull Athlete Performance Centre in Santa Monica, Los Angeles, where the emphasis was on gradually resuming running sessions.

The youngster also underwent intensive strength training aimed at improving stability and supporting his recovery.

This week marked another positive development, as Ouedraogo returned to the pitch for further training sessions and, for the first time since his injury, worked with the ball again. For now, his programme will continue to focus primarily on running exercises as he builds up match fitness.

If all goes according to plan, Ouedraogo is expected to be available for selection again in April, offering a timely boost for RB Leipzig as they approach a crucial phase of the season.
