Geita Gold Football Club has taken the top position in Tanzania’s Championship League after a narrow 1-0 win over Mtibwa Sugar at Nyankumbu Stadium. The victory marked an impressive continuation of Geita Gold’s unbeaten run, bringing their points tally to 14 from six matches, with four wins and two draws, as they pursue promotion back to the Premier League next season.
This latest triumph sets the stage for Geita Gold’s next fixture, scheduled for next Monday against ninth-placed Polisi Tanzania, again at their home ground, Nyankumbu Stadium.
As they hold onto their lead, Geita Gold’s solid defense and disciplined strategy continue to make them formidable contenders in the league.
Meanwhile, Mtibwa Sugar, who had been enjoying an unbeaten season until this weekend, now sits just behind Geita Gold with 13 points, comprised of four wins, one draw, and one loss.
The loss to Geita Gold halted Mtibwa’s winning streak, and they are now looking ahead to a critical game against African Sports, which will take place on November 2nd at the Manungu Complex in Morogoro.
Both clubs are eager to secure crucial points to maintain momentum in the standings.
The competition for top positions is fierce, with TMA and Stand United, currently in third and fourth places respectively, both accumulating 12 points from their matches.
TMA remains unbeaten like Geita Gold, and the team aims to continue their streak in an upcoming match against Mbuni FC at Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in Arusha, scheduled for August 3rd.
Stand United shares similar aspirations, hoping to climb further in the ranks.
Positions in the mid-table reflect the tight nature of the league, with Songea United and Mbeya City currently holding fifth and sixth places with 11 points each.
They are closely followed by Mbeya Kwanza and Bigman FC, both sitting on 10 points, while Polisi Tanzania and Biashara United occupy ninth and tenth positions, each with eight points from six matches.
Lower in the standings, Cosmopolitan and Green Warriors are in 11th and 12th place with seven points.
Struggling to rise, Mbuni FC ranks 13th, having earned just six points with one win, three draws, and two losses.
At the bottom end, Transit Camp, African Sports, and Kiluvya have yet to secure a victory.
Transit Camp has managed to collect two points from two draws and four losses, while African Sports has earned a single point from their six games.
Kiluvya, meanwhile, remains without points, rounding out the standings as the only team yet to avoid defeat.
As the season progresses, the competition in the Championship League remains intense, with each team battling to improve their position in the standings.
