USL Dunkerque have completed the signing of Gambian international Aboubakary Kanté on a two-year contract following AC Ajaccio’s relegation from Ligue 2.
The 31-year-old forward, who found the net six times in the league for Ajaccio last season, will remain in France’s second tier as he begins a new chapter with the northern club.
His arrival is seen as a significant boost to Dunkerque’s attacking options ahead of the new campaign.
In its official statement, the club highlighted Kanté’s proven qualities and adaptability in the final third.
An experienced player, Abou Kanté is known for his power and mobility across the attacking front. Capable of playing with his back to goal or running into space, he knows how to put opposing defences under pressure while also being dangerous inside the box. His versatility allows him to offer a range of solutions in attack, the press release read.
Kanté brings with him considerable experience at this level, having made 70 Ligue 2 appearances and scored 20 goals over the course of his career.
His physical presence, work rate and ability to play in multiple roles across the forward line are attributes Dunkerque will look to exploit as they aim to push further up the table.
The striker expressed his excitement at the move, citing both the sporting project and the environment at the club as key factors in his decision. I’m very happy to have joined USL Dunkerque. The project is very exciting both on and off the pitch, he said.
For Dunkerque, the signing of Kanté underlines their intent to strengthen the squad with experienced and proven players as they prepare for the challenges of the new season.
The club will be counting on his leadership, sharpness in front of goal and ability to bring others into play to make an immediate impact.
Kanté’s addition comes at a time when Dunkerque are looking to build on their previous campaign and establish themselves as a consistent force in Ligue 2.
With his track record and commitment, the Gambian international could prove to be one of their most valuable assets in the months ahead.
