Galatasaray have intensified their efforts to sign Senegal midfielder Pape Gueye, pressing ahead with negotiations despite Villarreal’s high valuation of the player during the winter transfer window.
The Istanbul club have made the Villarreal midfielder one of their key targets as they seek to strengthen the centre of their squad. While financial demands from the Spanish side remain a significant obstacle, Galatasaray are continuing talks in the hope of finding common ground.
After completing moves to reinforce their wide areas with the signings of Noa Lang and Yaser Asprilla, Galatasaray are understood to have shifted their attention towards the heart of midfield.
Turkish media reports suggest that the club’s recruitment strategy has now prioritised adding experience and defensive solidity, leading them to focus on Gueye.
The Senegal international’s reputation has been further enhanced following a successful Africa Cup of Nations campaign, which ended with Senegal lifting the trophy.
Gueye played a prominent role throughout the tournament and was among the standout performers, underlining his importance at international level and increasing his appeal to potential suitors.
According to reports, Galatasaray’s interest has not gone unnoticed by the player. Gueye is said to be receptive to the idea of a new challenge, with discussions already taking place between his representatives and the Turkish club.
Any move, however, remains dependent on an agreement being reached with Villarreal, where the midfielder is under contract until 2028.
The Spanish club are reportedly holding firm on their valuation, setting an asking price of around €40 million for the defensive midfielder. Galatasaray, by contrast, are believed to be working within a more restricted financial framework, with a maximum budget estimated at approximately €30 million for the deal.
This difference in valuation is expected to make negotiations complex and potentially protracted. Encouraged by the player’s apparent openness to a move, Galatasaray have nevertheless continued discussions with Villarreal in the hope of narrowing the gap.
As the transfer window progresses, the situation remains finely balanced. While Galatasaray are determined to strengthen their midfield, Villarreal’s stance suggests that any agreement will require compromise, patience and sustained negotiation in the days ahead.
