Galatasaray offer puts Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli’s future in doubt

Arsenal are open to selling Gabriel Martinelli after completing the £75m signing of Brazil international Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle.

The arrival of Guimaraes has strengthened Mikel Arteta’s midfield options, with the Brazilian joining a group that already includes Declan Rice, Martin Ødegaard, Martin Zubimendi, Mikel Merino, Eberechi Eze and Myles Lewis-Skelly.

Arsenal have also added to their attacking choices during the transfer window by signing Greece international Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge in a deal worth £34m.

Arteta approved the move for Tzolis after Arsenal allowed Leandro Trossard to leave for Besiktas for a reported fee of £15m. However, Trossard may not be the only winger to depart Emirates Stadium.

Martinelli has emerged as another possible departure, according to the English newspaper Metro, with Arsenal having received an attractive offer from Galatasaray for the Brazilian.

The 24-year-old has been an important player for Arsenal since joining the London club, making 278 appearances in all competitions. Despite that record, he struggled to make a significant impact during the previous campaign.

Martinelli scored only once in 30 Premier League appearances last season and is expected to fall behind new signing Tzolis in Arteta’s preferred order on the wing.

That change in the attacking pecking order, combined with the arrival of Guimaraes and Arsenal’s wider squad reshaping, has left Martinelli’s position at the club uncertain. The possible move to Galatasaray would represent a significant change for a player who has been one of Arsenal’s regular options since arriving in London.

Arsenal’s midfield is now equipped with further competition following the £75m deal for Guimaraes, while Tzolis gives Arteta another option in the wide areas. The club’s willingness to consider Martinelli’s sale reflects the increased competition created by those additions.

Trossard’s move to Besiktas has already reduced the number of established wingers available to Arteta, but the signing of Tzolis means Arsenal still have a new attacking option ready to compete for a place. Martinelli’s limited output last season could make it more difficult for him to retain his position ahead of the Greek international.

The report does not state whether Arsenal have accepted Galatasaray’s offer, but it indicates that the club are prepared to listen to proposals for Martinelli. Any departure would bring an end to his spell as an Arsenal player after 278 matches for the club in all competitions.
