Galatasaray dismisses rumours of Victor Osimhen’s early departure
Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen’s unexpected move to Galatasaray has sent shockwaves through European football, as the Turkish giants secured the forward on a one-season loan. Despite interest from major clubs like Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, the 25-year-old opted for a spell in Istanbul. Galatasaray’s deal, a straightforward loan with partial salary coverage, has been viewed as a major coup for the Super Lig side.
Osimhen, known for his blistering pace and clinical finishing, has already begun to impress in his new environment.
Although he has yet to find the back of the net, the forward has contributed to his team’s success by providing two assists in his opening matches.
His debut was marked by a 3-1 victory over fierce rivals Fenerbahçe, where his dynamic play helped Galatasaray secure a crucial win.
Despite a goal still eluding him, Osimhen’s early performances have earned praise for his ability to dismantle opposing defences and set up key chances for his teammates.
His immediate impact has been enough to draw the attention of the club’s hierarchy, with Galatasaray’s vice-president, Ibrahim Hatipoglu, recently addressing speculation regarding the striker’s future.
Speaking to local media outlet Spor Kazani, Hatipoglu quashed rumours that Osimhen could leave the club as early as January if a major European team came knocking.
“There is no possibility that Osimhen will leave us in January. Moreover, we are working so that he still plays here next season.
He will be a Galatasaray player until June,” Hatipoglu stated firmly.
This declaration puts to rest growing speculation about a possible early exit for Osimhen, who has been linked to some of Europe’s top clubs even during his short stay in Turkey.
Hatipoglu’s comments suggest that Galatasaray is determined to keep the star striker for the entirety of the season and possibly extend his stay into the next campaign.
He went on to add, “Talking about these things only serves to attract attention and spoil the pleasure of seeing Osimhen play.”
His remarks indicate the club’s focus on maintaining stability and allowing the Nigerian to continue his integration into the squad without the distraction of transfer rumours.
Osimhen’s move to Galatasaray was unexpected, especially given his previous links to powerhouse clubs in the Premier League and Ligue 1.
However, his decision to join the Turkish outfit represents a bold step, both for the player and for Galatasaray.
The Super Lig side has managed to bring in a player of world-class potential, and Osimhen’s presence adds significant firepower to their attacking line-up.
With two wins from two matches and Osimhen already proving to be a crucial part of the team’s success, Galatasaray’s management will be keen to hold onto him for as long as possible.
The club’s ambitions in both the domestic league and European competitions are likely to be bolstered by the Nigerian’s presence, and fans will hope to see him find the net in upcoming fixtures.
As for Osimhen, while the season in Turkey may have started quietly in terms of goals, his contributions on the pitch and his ability to terrorise defences suggest that it’s only a matter of time before he becomes a regular feature on the scoresheet.
Galatasaray, for their part, appear ready to stand firm against any outside interest, ensuring that Osimhen’s future remains in Istanbul—at least until the end of the season.
