Galatasaray abandon pursuit of Victor Osimhen amid high financial demands

Galatasaray’s hopes of securing Victor Osimhen on a permanent deal have been dashed due to the Nigerian striker’s financial demands, forcing the Turkish club to reconsider its transfer strategy.

Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli, has been a standout performer this season, delivering a string of high-impact performances that quickly cemented him as a fan favorite in Istanbul.

His impressive tally of 28 goal involvements in as many games made him the club’s most influential player, prompting Galatasaray to explore the possibility of making his stay permanent.

However, negotiations have stalled over the financial complexities of the deal, leaving the club with no choice but to prepare for his departure.

Contract demands prove a stumbling block

Despite Galatasaray’s clear interest in keeping him, Osimhen has outlined strict conditions for a long-term stay, significantly increasing the cost of the transfer.

According to reports from the Turkish press, the Napoli-owned forward has requested:

  • A four-year contract
  • An annual salary of €15 million
  • A release clause set at €75 million

This would amount to a staggering €135 million financial commitment over four years, a sum that Galatasaray—despite its ambition—simply cannot afford.

With the added competition from European giants such as Manchester United, securing the Nigerian striker has become an uphill battle for the Turkish champions.

Galatasaray opt to move on

Given the financial constraints, Galatasaray has reportedly decided to withdraw from negotiations, shifting its focus to alternative attacking options.

While Osimhen’s departure is imminent, the club is preparing a special farewell to honor his contribution, particularly if they go on to lift the Turkish Super Lig title before the season ends.

Neymar Jr eyed as a possible replacement?

With Osimhen set to leave, Galatasaray have already begun exploring high-profile replacements.

According to Turkish media, one potential target is Neymar Jr, who recently returned to Santos following an underwhelming spell in Saudi Arabia.

While a move for the Brazilian remains speculative, it signals Galatasaray’s determination to remain competitive even in the wake of Osimhen’s exit.

For now, the Nigerian forward’s next destination remains uncertain, with Napoli likely to command a hefty transfer fee.

Whether he ends up in the Premier League, Serie A, or elsewhere in Europe, one thing is clear—Osimhen’s time in Turkey is coming to an end, leaving Galatasaray to rethink its ambitions for the future.
