Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has completed his anticipated transfer to Olympique Marseille.
The African star and legend of the game sealed his return to the French Ligue 1 club on Thursday, July 31.
“Olympique de Marseille is proud to announce the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabonese international striker joined the club this afternoon,” the French club said in an official statement.
Born in Laval and raised in a family steeped in football with a father who was a formidable Gabonese international, Aubameyang seemed destined for greatness.
But rather than simply follow the path laid before him, he carved out a legacy of his own.
From his early days at AC Milan and loan spells across France with Dijon, Lille, and Monaco, to his breakout at Saint-Étienne, Aubameyang’s trademark speed, intelligent movement, and clinical finishing quickly earned him recognition.
His five-season goal-scoring spree at Borussia Dortmund was followed by successful stints at Arsenal, Barcelona, and Chelsea.
After an initial move to Marseille, Aubameyang announced his presence in style, most notably with a stunning hat-trick against Ajax.
“I came to thrill,” he declared at his first press conference. And thrill he did, becoming the focal point of Marseille’s dynamic attack, electrifying the Orange Vélodrome with his goals, flamboyant celebrations, and relentless drive.
After a season in Saudi Arabia later, during which he scored 21 goals in 36 matches, the Gabonese international’s slender figure returns to Marseille.
Now 36 years, he still has the fire to rock stadiums. He is hoping to bang in the goals and play a key role for Marseille in the upcoming 2025/26 football season.
