Gabon forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scores to propel Marseille to 2-1 win against Strasbourg
Gabonese superstar Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang played a key role for Olympique Marseille on Friday evening, propelling the team to secure a 2-1 victory against Racing Strasbourg.
Strasbourg broke the deadlock early in the second half when Abdoul Ouattara’s effort was confirmed by VAR in the 49th minute.
The hosts looked set to hold on, but Aubameyang dragged Marseille level in the 78th minute after coming on as a substitute, pouncing on a rebound and slotting home with precision.
Marseille completed the comeback deep into stoppage time as Michael Murillo capitalised on another loose ball, unleashing a stunning strike from the edge of the box into the top corner to seal the 2-1 victory.
The result keeps Marseille’s momentum alive, with Aubameyang once again proving decisive in front of goal.
The win takes Olympique Marseille to the summit of the French Ligue 1 standings with 12 points after six games.
