Gabon Narrowing Down Coaching Candidates, Eyeing Portuguese Managers
In the search for a new head coach to lead the Gabonese national football team, the country’s sports authorities have now narrowed their focus to two prominent Portuguese figures. According to Africa Top Sports, the Gabonese Football Federation is considering Fernando Santos, the current manager of the Greek national team, and Carlos Queiroz, who is currently at the helm of the Iranian national team, as the leading candidates.
Reports from Afrik-foot suggest that these two experienced coaches are the final contenders for the role, with Gabonese officials now set to make their decision. To finalize the hiring process, a Gabonese delegation will meet with the two coaches in Europe, particularly in Switzerland, in the coming days.
However, even if an agreement is reached, both Santos and Queiroz will not take over the Gabonese Panthers until after the 2014 World Cup, as they are committed to guiding their respective national teams through the tournament. Despite this, the anticipation surrounding their potential arrival is already growing, with the Gabonese Football Federation eager to secure a high-caliber coach for the team’s future endeavors.
