Fulham consider move for free agent Dani Carvajal after difficult Premier League start

Fulham are considering a move for former Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal as Alvaro Arbeloa’s side look to strengthen their squad during the current period.

Carvajal is currently without a club after his contract with Real Madrid expired at the end of last season. That status means the 34-year-old is free to sign for another team immediately and would not have to wait until the January transfer window.

According to TEAMtalk, Fulham manager Arbeloa is considering bringing Carvajal to Craven Cottage because of the player’s extensive experience at the highest level of the game.

Fulham have endured a difficult beginning to the current Premier League season, losing their opening three matches in the competition. The possibility of adding an experienced free agent is therefore being assessed by the club, with Carvajal emerging as a potential option.

The Spanish defender has remained unattached since leaving Real Madrid. Although his agreement with the Spanish club ended at the conclusion of the previous campaign, he has not joined another team.

Carvajal’s availability outside the normal transfer window gives Fulham the flexibility to complete a deal now if they decide to pursue the proposal. Clubs can sign free agents at this stage of the season, meaning there is no requirement for either side to wait until January.

The report says Arbeloa is examining whether Carvajal could provide valuable experience to his Fulham squad. The manager is familiar with the defender’s background and is understood to be weighing up the benefits of adding a player who has spent many years competing at the highest level.

No agreement has been announced, and the report describes the move as an idea being considered rather than a completed transfer. Carvajal remains a free agent while Fulham assess whether to make an approach.

The player’s contract with Real Madrid ended after last season, closing his spell with the club and leaving him available to negotiate with any team. He has not signed elsewhere since becoming unattached.

For Fulham, the interest comes after a disappointing start to their Premier League campaign, with three defeats from their first three matches. Arbeloa must now decide whether Carvajal’s experience makes him a suitable addition as the club looks to respond to that early run of results.

If Fulham proceed, Carvajal would be able to join without waiting for the winter transfer window because he is not currently registered with another club. At present, however, the situation remains at the consideration stage, with the west London club studying the possibility of bringing in the former Real Madrid player.
