English-Nigerian winger Oladapo Afolayan didn’t hold back after FC St. Pauli’s 2–0 loss to VfL Bochum.
Afolayan made it clear he’s unhappy with how things have gone over the past six months, hinting that his future with the club may be uncertain.
“It’s been shitty,” Afolayan said bluntly, referring to his lack of consistent playing time and public criticism from head coach Alexander Blessin. He felt unvalued, even when he was on the pitch. “I have the feeling that I didn’t get the playing time I deserved. And when I did play, it wasn’t appreciated.”
While others may have accepted the team’s 14th-place finish, Afolayan wasn’t convinced. He pointed to FC Heidenheim’s success as proof St. Pauli could’ve done more. “We should go out and want to win games, not just try not to lose them.”
The 27-year-old, subbed off at halftime in the final match, is set for talks with club leaders this summer. With one year left on his contract, his next move is up in the air.
